Buying fixtures from Home Depot
If you are planning to update some of the fixtures in your home there are a few things to consider that could save you money down the road. Many of the cheap fixtures available at Home Depot or Lowes are very difficult to find parts for. Brands such as Glacier Bay will package up to seven other manufactures fixtures and relabel them as their own. To make matters worse, many of the people that purchase these fixtures are not experienced with installing fixtures. For this reason there are a great deal of returns, many of which will be missing parts. Never buy a fixture that has been taped back together, there are just too many important parts any of which could give you problems.
Even after a successful installation on a new shower valve, at some point this fixture will have some issues. If you find yourself in this situation and need to find a plumber in Kansas City, we can help. The main problems that we see when servicing shower valves is a worn out cartridge, seats, and springs. This is the part of the shower valve that adjust the hot and cold water levels. With a brand such as Delta or Moen, there will be a few universal cartridges that will work for almost all of their fixtures. Most plumbers will stock these parts in there service trucks which means they will have them before they even show up at your door. A brand like Glacier Bay could have 7 or more different cartridges, seats, and spring kits. For this reason we do not service or make repairs to these types of fixtures. Often the only solution is to replace the entire unit which can add several hundred dollars to the total cost.
