Marketing for Plumbers
This site was created by a licensed plumber to help other plumbers grow their business. Here are the three most effective strategies to marketing your plumbing business online.
Guest blogging is one of the best ways that you can increase your online presence. It’s important to understand that traditional link building strategies are not nearly as effective as they used to be. Guest blogging has taken off in the last 12 months as it is one of the best ways to build your brand when done correctly.
The future of Search will have more to do with Social sharing than links. This means that you should be focusing on building your social audience. In my opinion you should be focusing 80% of your social efforts on Google+, the remaining can be spent of facebook, twitter, or other sharing networks. If you are interested in being a guest blogger please visit our plumbing guest blog requirements page.
Forum posting is another link building strategy that is often abused and therefore many of the links that come from forum posting can be discredited. The number one thing that you should consider when choosing a forum to post is whether the site is relavent to your business. My favorite plumbing forum is Plumbing Zone, it is strictly for plumbing professionals.
Most online forums will allow you to post a link to your business in your signature, which automatically displays on every one of your post. This is something that is very likely to be considered spam when it’s not done properly. It’s okay to post a link back to your business, best practice is to use your business name for the anchor text. Make sure you don’t post a bunch of keywords all linking to your site, this will not help your ranking. Instead your signature can be used as a tool to increase your social presence. In my forum signatures I include some of my most recent blog posts, as well as a link to my Google+, Twitter, and Facebook profiles.
Our Plumbing Forum is still in the early stages of development but you are more than welcome to register your profile.
Submitting your website to relavant directories is one of the most important things that you can do in order to show up in the sweet spot. I’m talking about the google 7-pack that displays in almost every city, when a user types in the search “plumber”. The 7-pack provides the most trustworthy information about your business. For plumbers, 75% of our traffic should be coming from this listing.
The theory behind directory listings is that your business information which is referred to as NAP (name, address, and phone number), must appear consistant amongst all sites across the internet. For instance if Jimbob Handyman service has been doing carpentry for the last 5 years and suddenly wants to start showing up for plumbing services, he has a lot of work to do. Any information about his business across the web is likely going to have descriptive text relating to carpentry.
Don’t get carried away with directory submission. There are several services that you should avoid such as yext. I will elaborate this more in a future blog post. The most important thing to consider is that all directory submissions should be manual. They also need to be done by somebody that knows what they are talking about. Anytime you submit to a directory you should fill out as many words as they will allow for your description. If you hire an SEO company to do directory submission your listings will be weak because they don’t know shit about plumbing. You should also add as many photos as possible to each listing.
Directory submission can be a huge waste of time if the website is not relavant to your business. Our plumbing directory is one of the only directories that is specifically targeted towards plumbing.
